NBA Picks: On Wednesday, the Celtics’ Game 5 home loss was one of their worst in recent memory. With 10 minutes left, the team reverted to the frustrating squad of the first half of the season. They were then sucking the game away with poor shot selection and spending time attempting to draw calls rather than getting back on defense. Boston’s meltdown could cost them the series.
However, I don’t believe these Cs have finished yet. At the same time, the game’s dismal conclusion reminded the club’s shortcomings. The opening 40 minutes demonstrated why they’d been the top team in the NBA since mid-January. I believe we’ve seen that Boston is the more talented team if they can replicate that style of play for an entire game in Milwaukee. And, after that humiliating loss, the Celts should be dead set on sticking to their game plan for the whole 48 minutes.
Many consider Boston’s January 6 loss in New York (another catastrophic collapse) to be the season’s turning point. They are 11-2 after a loss since the R.J. Barrett triple beat the C’s at the horn. Of course, not all of those games are against Giannis Antentokounmpo and the Bucks in the postseason, but you get the idea.
This is a little dicey, but these are must-have slots for both title candidates. I had no idea what transpired in Game 5 in Memphis. The Warriors let that one slip through their fingers. However, I doubt it would happen in a Game 6 at home with a chance to win the series.
The Grizzlies have caused the Dubs significant problems without Ja Morant in the lineup, but they now have more footage. Memphis’ size is a considerable impact. Golden State has a better chance of adapting and playing better defense at home. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson shot well in Game 5, but they never stood a chance. If they can get both of them going in this game, the Warriors should be favorites.
The Suns have won all three games in this series, and the final game will be held in Phoenix. The Mavericks haven’t been nearly as good on the road as at home, which has been the difference.
Meanwhile, Phoenix has been outstanding in its own right, and I expect more of the same in the future. Doncic will have his chance in the postseason, but for now, the Suns’ home-court advantage. And a desire to avenge last season’s NBA Finals loss should be too much. The Mavs deserve credit for challenging such a talented club, as they did against the Clippers last season. But the Suns have too large of an advantage at home.
